I tried taking some portraits. I am not happy with the HUGE shaddows behind the kids. I need to find out how to get rid of the shaddows and try again!

I think I might need better lighting but not sure how to get that on a budget!

I could play with the natural light more and then that might help...I really think it is the position of the chair in relation to the window!

Christie - those shadows are from your flash, and have nothing to do with the window. Your subject is directly between the flash and the backdrop. so the subject is going to cast a shadow. The easiest way to do this is to bounce the light off a surface above and/or behind you, to diffuse the light a bit, and to make the direction of the light cast a shadow on the floor or lower on the wall behind you subject. You can try moving your subject further from the backdrop, too - the shadow will still be present, but will not be so defined. If you need the flash directed at the subject and you want NO shadow, you need to light up the backdrop with a fill light. You can go buy an external flash or strobe that will synch with the camera, or you can use a steady light source. A Studio light is going to cost substantially more than a work light, as you mentioned you might get. Just set the light up BEHIND you subject, pointed where the shadow is going to be cast. Be creative about it and you can get some really funky effects! have fun!
