Practice makes perfect...
I took some more shots of the little girl that I am looking after today. She is such a good model! She is so easy going and candid!
I love the elf hat that she has on! In the second shot, the close up of her face, I asked her what she got for Christmas that was the best...she had to think hard on that one!

Portraits with the telephoto lens!
Really loving doing portraits!
I'm really loving doing portraits! I really need to either move my kitchen table or get a smaller one that isn't so big and cumbersome! Moving the table and all the chairs all the time is getting a little tiring!
This is my favorite shot for today! I had just asked her if she wanted dog food for a snack!

Old Photos

Here are some photos that I have taken over the last couple years. Before recently I only had a simple point and shoot digital camera. I love that camera. I still keep it in my pocket for quick shots when we are out and about! I love that it takes super clear shots!
I just wanted everyone to see some of my work pre-slr camera!
Finding models
I have a bunch of models lined up for the new year. I should be posting more and more photos in January!
I also plan to spend some time downtown taking photos of the homeless on my days off and days without my kids here. That will help kill some time and it allows me to take photos of something that I'm passionate about. I see this project becoming a photo book or a calendar or something of the sort! I would also like to take some photos of the homeless in Puerto Plata!

I think I got it!

I tried doing portraits today against my black background and I am really happy with them!
You can see which child is the diva and loves to be in front of the camera!
The oldest with the frown...thinks that he is too old to be one of my guinea pigs. After a bit he was having fun and smiling tho!
Now to try taking some with other people's kids!

Portraits again!
I took Hope's advice and the results were AMAZING!!!! Now I am going to try it with a tripod! I got some blurry shots because I had a slow shutter speed and a wide open aperature to get as much light in as I could!
The shadows are much better! I used not artificial light and only my flash on my camera!
DUH!!!
Please tell me that I am not the only person this has happened to?
I loaded up my camera gear and we headed off the to sledding hill the other day. I stood at the bottom of the hill and took awesome action shots of the kids sledding and playing! I used my telephoto lens!
When I got home to check out my pictures and post them on this blog, I realized that I had NO MEMORY CARD in the camera! UGH!!!!

Maisie's Christmas House
I passed this place last weekend on 97 street and 144 ave. It is totally amazing. The lights are beautiful...the entire, HUGE, house is done up in lights. You can walk around the house, peeking into windows and seeing the displays in the windows and such.
They are taking food donations for the food bank, clothing donations for County Clothesline, as well as donations for the Diabetes Association. There is NO FEE to go see this spectacular house!

Lighting Issues SOLVED!!!
OK! I figured out the lighting issue and now I just need to find a local store that sells halogen work lights and stands. I also want to get a easel from Ikea and a large square mirror to reflect the light back onto the subject! I have the theory down....just need to perfect it in real life!
I can find the halogen work lights online but I don't want to order online....I want to buy them locally! Only problem is that I have NO IDEA where to get them from!
I bought three great photography books from Good Will today when we were there. One is on portrait photography!

I tried taking some portraits. I am not happy with the HUGE shaddows behind the kids. I need to find out how to get rid of the shaddows and try again!
I think I might need better lighting but not sure how to get that on a budget!
I could play with the natural light more and then that might help...I really think it is the position of the chair in relation to the window!
